Inspections for damage following a 5.2-magnitude earthquake in Evia were underway on Friday. So far, the damage appears to be confined to a minor landslide on the rural road from Pili toward Vlachia in central Evia, while no damage has been found during inspections of villages between Mantoudi and Metochi.
Central Greece governor Fanis Spanos, in statements to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, said that there were some broken windows and items falling off shelves in shops, while there were no reports of damage to infrastructure. Machinery had been sent to clear the road between Pili and Vlachia and inspections of the infrastructure were continuing. He also said that the seismologists had been reassuring concerning the aftershocks.
By order of the Mantoudi, Limni and Agia Anna Mayor, Giorgos Tsapourniotis, schools in the municipality will remain closed on Friday and parents have been called to pick up small children from schools, while the older children will return home by bus.
"So far, there have been no reports of injuries or buildings collapsing," Tsapourniotis said.
A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale was recorded at 8:26 on Friday. The quake's epicentre was located 6 km east of Prokopi on the island of Evia and 85 km north of Athens and was felt in Attica, Viotia, Corinth and even Argolida.
